Tea scrap, glue additive na!

Nadiskubre at napatunayan ngayon ng mga Scientists mula sa Department Of Science and Technology at Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI), na ang dahon ng Spent Tea Leaves (STL) ay mura at reliable additive para sa filler nang locally-produced plywood adhesives.

 

Ayon kay Juanito Jimenez, Jr. ng FPRDI,  constituent agency mula sa Department of Science and Technology, na ang kanilang pag aaral sa STL ay potential at di hamak na mas mura kapalit ng wheat flour sa extender na pwede ng magamit sa mercado. 

Ang nasabing pagsisiyasat ay nag umpisa sa pangongolekta nang dried leaves, sa ibat ibang bayan at lalawigan sa bansa  mula sa local beverage manufacturing plant at sinubukan sa falcata at native mahogany lumber sa 5-mm thick at triple-layer plywood panels para masukat ang strength, cohesive wood failure, formaldehyde emission para makasunod sa compliance ng Philippine National Standard 196, ISO 12466-1 at 12466-2 standards.

“Through this mechanical test,  mixed with urea formaldehyde (UF) resin. The strength and wood failure parameters are measured to indicate the performance of the bond between the glued veneers in terms of strength of the bond and amount of wood fibers taken off from either of the two glued layers of veneers being tested,” ani Jiminez. 

Dagdag pa nito na sa buong bansa ay halos 18 metric tons ng STL  mula sa mga manufacture ng tea-flavored drinks ang napupunta lamang araw araw sa landfills o kaya ay sa compost pits pero ito pala ay mahalagang material sa plywood adhesive at kapakipakinabang.
